Volumetric Weight Guide

"Why is my light shipment being charged more?"

In air freight, "Volume Weight" (or Dimensional Weight) is used to calculate the cost based on the space a package occupies in the aircraft, rather than just its actual weight.

The Formula

To calculate the Volumetric Weight of your shipment:

$$ \text{Volumetric Weight (Kg)} = \frac{L \times W \times H \text{ (cm)}}{6000} $$
  • Chargeable Weight: Airlines charge based on whichever is higher—the Actual Gross Weight or the Volumetric Weight.
  • The SAG Console Advantage: Our experts are masters at "Pallet Optimization." We mix heavy and light cargo within our consoles to ensure you get the most efficient rate possible.
